Interreg ITA-HR ML-Repair Project - Final Conference

The prevailing part of marine waste consists of plastic materials: micro-plastics, in particular, is an increasing cause for concern for the degradation of the marine and coastal ecosystems, potentially endangering the functionality of the ecosystem itself and reducing the quality of coastal waters for fishing and tourism. Furthermore, cross-border effects are already known in marine litter, with a floating sea layer of waste that travels regardless of the state / administrative boundaries of a country. Therefore, marine litter issue requires a common approach of different countries and their joint efforts to find a proper and appropriate solution and approach.

The project "ML-REPAIR - REducing and Preventing, an Integrated Approach to Marine Litter Management in the Adriatic Sea", in the framework of the cross-boarder Italy-Croatia Cooperation Programme, recognizes the importance of local communities, coastal tourism and the fisheries sector in the solution of the problem of marine litter and realizes joint activities that provide different tools, specific for the target group involved, to be used in the future to address the Marine Litter issue.

During this Final Conference, the tools developed in the ML-Repair project, will be presented and discussed with a view to future applications in the Mediterranean see.
